ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand current status of children s first permanent molar in Harbin, to investigate parental awareness regarding children s first permanent molar as well as Pit and Fissure sealant, and to provide new ideas for caries prevention in the first permanent molar and Pit and Fissure sealant.@*Methods@#In October 2019, 11 540 children in the region were examined and their parents were given questionnaires.@*Results@#The prevalence of dental caries was 37.72%. The DMFT was 1.11, the germination rate was 86.98%, and Pit and Fissure sealants rate was 36.93%. About 16.8% of the parents were aware of the eruption time of first permanent molar, and 35.33% didn t know first permanent molar, 19.39% of the parents had a clear understanding of Pit and Fissure sealants time and 32.77% of the parents were not aware of Pit and Fissure sealants. The prevalence of caries was higher in children (35.55%, 32.77%) whose parents did not know the first permanent molar and the pit and fissure sealants.High income level, high education level and urban parents had a higher degree of knowledge about fossa closure( χ 2=98.35, 192.16, 172.31, P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#Prevalence of dental caries is higher in children in Harbin, and the awareness of Pit and Fissure sealants is lower in parents. Relevant organizations should strengthen the publicity and education of oral health knowledge for parents.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the oral health service demands and utilization among school-age children in Xiangfang district of Harbin, and to explore the related influencing factors.@*Methods@#A total of 7 944 children aged 6-11 were investigated for oral health status through questionnaire survey in Xiangfang District, Harbin. Descriptive analysis, Chi-square test, nonparametric test and Logistic regression were used to analyze the oral health service demands and utilization of school-age children.@*Results@#The rate of caries, unfilled caries, malocclusion and traumatic dental injuries were 89.7%, 60.7%, 59.3% and 12.5%, respectively. In the past 12 months, 53.8% of children had toothache. The rate of seeking medical treatment in stomatology department was 31.6%, with the primary reason being treatment (47.6%), while the rate of preventive dental treatment was 15.6%. Multivariate analysis showed that girls, father s education being high school or technical secondary school, father s education higher or equal to junior college, poor oral health evaluation, high score on oral knowledge and oral attitude, brushing teeth once a day, brushing teeth twice a day or more, having attended oral health courses, having toothache experience, having dental trauma experience, suffering from dental caries were more likely to visit the oral clinics (OR=1.11,1.17,1.50,0.80,1.07,1.21,1.60,2.27,1.28,1.49,1.54,1.67, P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#In Xiangfang District of Harbin, there is a large demand for oral health services for school-age children, however, both of the utilization rate and the preventive medical treatment rate is low. Many factors affect the utilization of oral health services for children. It is suggested that targeted measures should be taken to improve the utilization level of school-age children s health resources.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To design the protection of peritoneal dialysis catheter and solve the problem of broken peritoneal dialysis catheter during clinical use.@*Methods@#A total of 94 patients with end-stage renal disease who received newly opened peritoneal dialysis in the Department of Nephrology, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2016 to December 2017 were selected as research objects. In order of the time of tube opening, 47 patients with singular ordinal number receiving treatment were set as the control group, and 47 patients with even ordinal number receiving treatment were set as the observation group. The patients of control group, using the traditional peritoneal dialysis tube nursing; the patients of observation group, using anti - broken peritoneal dialysis tube for nursing. To observe and compare the incidence of dialysis catheter loosening and breakage during dialysis in the 2 groups of peritoneal dialysis patients, as well as the patient satisfaction.@*Results@#The catheter crease deformation of the observation group(0 case) was significantly lower than that of the control group (12 cases), and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=13.610, P<0.05). The total satisfaction of patients in the observation group was 97.87% (46/47), while that of patients in the control group was 72.34% (30/47). The total satisfaction rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group (χ2=12.086, P<0.01). No leakage occurred in the observation group, which was also significantly lower than that in the control group. However, due to the limited observation time, the number of cases was small without statistical significance (P>0.05).@*Conclusions@#The improved peritoneal dialysis catheter is more convenient, safe and effective for long-term peritoneal dialysis patients, and it can reduce the incidence of peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis catheter, which is worthy of clinical application.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo assess gene chip application value in detecting pathogenic bacteria in intracranial infection cases.MethodsPrimers and probes aiming at the specific DNA sequences of 4 kinds of common pathogenic bacteria and 6 kinds of common drug resistance genes (DRGs) were designed and used to identify the bacteria and DRGs among 30 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens (12 positive,18negative in CSF culture) from patients with intracranial infection using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) and gene chip. The results of gene detection were compared with those of CSF culture and drug sensitivity testing.ResultsBacteria were identified and DRGs were detected in 15 specimens; DRGs and 16S gene were detected in 8 specimens; neither bacterium nor DRG was detected in 7 specimens.ConclusionGene chip technique is characterized by its relative sensitivity and rapidity of detecting the pathogenic bacteria in CSF of intraeranial infection cases.

ABSTRACT

We developed single base extension-tags (SBE-tags) microarray to detect eight common food-borne pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Enterobacter sakazaki, Shigella, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Campylobacter jejuni. With specific PCR primers identified and integrated for eight food-borne pathogens, target sequences were amplified and purified as template DNA of single base extension-tags reaction. The products were hybridized to microarrays and scanned for fluorescence intensity. The experiment showed a specific and simultaneous detection of eight food-borne pathogens. The system limits is 0.1 pg for a genomic DNA and 5x10(2) CFU/mL for Salmonella typhimurium cultures. The single base extension-tags assay can be used to detect food-borne pathogens rapidly and accurately with a high sensitivity, and provide an efficient way for diagnosis and control of disease caused by food-borne pathogens.

ABSTRACT

The insulin sensitivity in hypertensive patients with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and the insulin resistance (IR) under the disorder of glucose metabolism and hypertension were studied. By glucose tolerance test and insulin release test, insulin sensitivity index (ISI) and the ratio of area under glucose tolerance curve (AUCG) to area under insulin release curve (AUCI) were calculated and analyzed. The results showed that ISI was decreased to varying degrees in the patients with hypertension, the mildest in the group of NGT with hypertension, followed by the group of IGT without hypertension, the group of IGT with hypertension and DM (P = 0). There was very significant difference in the ratio of AUCG/AUCI between the hypertensive patients with NGT and controls (P = 0). It was concluded that a significant IR existed during the development of IGT both in hypertension and nonhypertension. The increase of total insulin secretion (AUCI) was associated with nonhypertension simultaneously. IR of the hypertensive patients even existed in NGT and was worsened with the deterioration of glucose metabolism disorder, but the AUCI in the HT group changed slightly. A relative deficiency of insulin secretion or dysfunction of beta-cell of islet existed in IGT and DM of the hypertensive patients.
